Abstract

Self-regulated learning for students, therefore this study is designed to explore the relationship between self-regulated learning and the ability to solve mathematics problems in grade VII of SMP Negeri 9 Surakarta for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The approach applied is a quantitative method with a correlational design. The research subjects included 89 students who were selected using cluster random sampling. Information collection was carried out through a mathematical problem-solving test as well as a questionnaire on self-regulated learning analyzed by analytical techniques such as calculation of averages, middle values, most frequently occurring values and standard deviations; examination of analysis requirements including normality tests and linearity tests; and hypothesis testing through simple correlation and regression analysis. The analysis meets the assumption of the analysis which states that there is a positive correlation between self-regulated learning and the ability to solve mathematical problems. In addition, the results of simple linear regression testing showed a statistical contribution of self-regulated learning with a significance level of 0.031 and a regression coefficient of 0.408. These findings confirm that the stronger the students' ability to manage the self-regulated learning process, the more effective they will be in handling math problems. The uniqueness of this research lies in the emphasis on the study of the ability to solve mathematical problems in algebraic materials, which is still rarely researched specifically in relation to self-regulated learning at the junior high school level.
